Jutze 52 #5 – Finally Home

From time to time I return to the place where I recorded the “Toilet Song“- as you can see in the video. While I have a bathroom affinity, I’m usually eager to keep my lyrics clean. Sort of. Consequently, “Finally Home” can be considered radio-friendly. Not that they play my songs on the radio. Once I had the idea for this song, it basically wrote itself.

#5 Finally Home

The last ten miles of the ride had been hell
But now I’ve finally arrived
There are many stories I must tell
But first I have to take a dump or else I won’t survive

Finally I can go to the bathroom
Finally I can let the tension go
I was afraid I was gonna burst
But now I can let go

Finally I can go to the bathroom
Finally I can let the tension go
I was afraid I was gonna burst
But now I’m finally home

Jutze 52 #4 – A Walk in the Wilderness

This instrumental had the working title “Week #4”. Very creative, I know. Even after recording (and filming) the tune it lacked a title. So I forced “A Walk in the Wilderness” upon it. Go figure.

Jutze 52 #3 – 79 Jahre

#3 79 Jahre

79 Jahre
79 Jahre

79 Jahre

Jutze 52 #2 – Black Skirt Girl

This is a jolly punk rock song, nothing more, nothing less. The video contains further trivia (no black skirts, though – sorry).

#2 Black Skirt Girl

I saw you at the basement show
On a Saturday night two months ago
And now I’m surprised to meet you again
In this record shop I visit every now and then
And I think I should warn you
‘Cause the record you hold in your beautiful hands is crap

Then suddenly you look up at me
Saying this one sucks, pointing at the CD
And you say you’re surprised to see me again
In this record shop in which your romance with rock once began
And you give me a smile, yeah
And I give you a smile in return and I say “Rock on!”

The Song of the Nightingale

Here we go again. It’s 2015 and I’m bringing back my 52-second songs! This one might grow into a proper Manticess song someday. The nightingale is, of course, a great singer who died. I did have one specific in mind while writing the chorus, but it’s probably better you think of whoever comes to your mind. In other news, I’m attempting to make a video for each song.

#1 The Song of the Nightingale

Suddenly there was silence where there used to be her song
Her feathers had been shimmering and her voice had been so strong
Now the nightingale will sing no more
The hand of death has locked her door
Still I know her spirit will prevail
When we sing the song of the nightingale

Envisioning My Crowdfunding Campaign

If I were to run a crowd funding campaign for one of my musical endeavours, here are some likely perks (gosh, I hate this word):

  • Music as download (5$?)
  • Music as download and on CD (15$?)
  • Music as download, bonus music as download (20$?)
  • Music as download and on CD, bonus music as download (30$?)
  • Music as download and on CD, bonus music as download, Manticess – God Save the Writer CD (from 2010), Jutze – Vivien CD (from 1999) (50$?)
  • Music as download and on CD, bonus music as download, original hand-written lyrics to a Jutze of your choice (subject to availability; these are the lyrics written during the song writing process, each sheet is unique; some songs had no written lyrics, some were lost) (50$?)
  • Music as download and on CD, bonus music as download, plus I write and record a 52-second song about a topic of your choice (restrictions apply) (60$?)

Depending on the production, I might also add some sort making of footage, maybe for free, maybe via link in the CD, maybe a separate DVD (including some live songs?)

The Fault in The Fault in Our Stars

“Unquestionably the funniest song you will ever hear about THE FAULT IN OUR STARS.” –John Green

This ain’t a book about a ballet dancer
No, it’s a book about a book about cancer
But there is something that is more important
This book mentions Natalie Portman
In 3 out of 25 chapters – I think she’s pretty scarce
That’s the fault in “The Fault in Our Stars”
Yeah that’s the fault in “The Fault in Our Stars”

If you do the math then you will see
22 chapters without Natalie
The ones that mention her are way too short, man!
John Green should have added way more Portman
It wouldn’t have been as difficult as landing a rover on Mars
That’s the fault in “The Fault in Our Stars”
Yeah that’s the fault in “The Fault in Our Stars”

At least the book doesn’t end in the middle of

  1. Einkaufszettel
  2. Konrad
  3. Reis
  4. I Wish Natalie Portman Was My Neighbour

Wrapping Up My 52-Second Song Project

A few minutes ago, I put my final 52-second song for 2011 online. By now, I have made 104 52-second songs – 52 in 2010 and now 52 in 2011. Thanks to everyone who listened to my 52-second songs and said encouraging things and shared my little tunes with their friends and had fun along the way. I certainly enjoyed the ride! I’ll update my music page in the near future. Meanwhile, check out the last two songs – each in an extended video version:

I Won’t Be Your Mary Magdalen” is a homage to Dar Williams and Richard Shindell, whose music I love love love! The lyrics became kind of meta – and I think they provide a nice closure for my 52-second song project. I’m looking forward to write longer songs in 2012, for a change. Actually, I might elaborate on this song fragment with my band Manticess.

Spoo for Christmas” was inspired the science fiction TV series Babylon 5. In the series, a lot of folks enjoy eating spoo, which “is a meat based food product“. Happy Holidays!
