readme

Version: V1
Data analysis finished: 2015-05-24
Article published: 2016-08-24
Replication files published: 2016-09-25
Software used: Stata 13.1, Mplus 7.2

Below you find the Stata do-files and the Mplus input files used for the analyses.

The NLSY97 data is available from https://www.nlsinfo.org/investigator/pages/search.jsp?s=NLSY97. default.NLSY97 is the file with the list of variables that were exported.

The data management do-file is crnestedV1.do. It contains lots of lines of renaming and scoring commands that were exported along with raw data (see above).

annestedV1.do provides descriptive statistics, correlations, reliability estimates, and additional calculations. The structural equation models are specified in the remaining .inp Mplus files, which are numbered according to the supplementary pdf file. Thus, model 5 is the one shown in Figure 1. Model 6 is the same as model 5 except for the equality constraint on the latent correlations with the general GPA factor.
